I bought this as a gift for my daughter to take her students to study abroad program. We agreed beforehand with students and Microsoft Office, Skype, iTunes, etc. All they need to communicate with us, write his papers for class, and to entertain herself on aircraft and other downtime. Since most software can be downloaded via the Internet, it seems a requirement not to have a DVD / CD. After a search I chose these netbook by another user ratings and recommendations. He wanted the built-in webcam for Skype calls. (Dell Netbook leave this out for some reason.) I bought the upgrade to 2GB of memory and installed by itself, took 30 seconds (Geek Squad charges $ 30 + for this). I have a 6-cell battery, which makes it a bit 'heavier, but perhaps worth while traveling abroad with limited access to markets. I have a converter from the website of Magellan and a bag of coccoon their website for this trip abroad. I probably spent $ 450 in general. This is a nice, light little thing, and we had no problems with it during use for the 3 weeks before he left. Seemed a bit 'slower than my Macbook when loading web pages, but is not a problem.
